White Diesel Replacement
HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a direct drop-in replacement for diesel, meaning no new infrastructure or modifications are required.
It is a more sustainable, renewable, higher quality fuel, made from 100% ISCC certified waste products. The waste fats and vegetable oils are treated by hydrogenation, transforming them into this low carbon fuel alternative.
Q: What are the advantages of transitioning to HVO fuel? One of the most compelling benefits is its potential to reduce CO2e emissions by up to 90%, which aligns perfectly with the global commitment to reduce our carbon footprint. In addition, HVO fuel offers several other significant advantages; It is odourless, free from FAME and is biodegradable.
Q: What is the primary reason for businesses transitioning to HVO? It has reached the point where we all know we need to start holding ourselves accountable and taking responsibility to battle the climate challenges we face.
For our customers, HVO represents a hassle-free strategy to initiate their journey towards achieving Net Zero emissions. In light of the government’s push to reach this target by 2050, we strongly urge everyone to consider adopting HVO.
There are many aspects to businesses where we can aim to be more conscious and less wasteful, but transitioning to HVO is the most effective and immediate way to reduce carbon emissions. By working together, we can strive for a cleaner, greener planet.
Q: What advice do you have for businesses transitioning to HVO fuel? Every business is unique, therefore so are the requirements that come with it. For your transition to run smoothly and see the full potential of the benefits, you need to do it in a way that works best for you. Our dedicated Future Fuels team and Account Managers are here to advise and guide you on your journey, making sure it’s a success!
Q: What feedback have you had from businesses using HVO? Our customers operations are so varied and open to multiple varying factors, that results can’t be compared exactly. What we can take from the overall feedback is that HVO is just as, if not more efficient than standard diesel and can also result in a reduction of AdBlue® usage. I would say though that we’re also very proud to have feedback that customers are incredibly happy with our service at New Era! We appreciate that some businesses may face challenges to make the switch, so it’s great to hear that we are making the process much simpler for them!
Q: How do you think the rise of electronic vehicles will affect fuel demand? I think they will play a big part in the future; however, it would be naïve to believe that we can rely on all machinery and vehicles being electrified, especially within the industries we supply to. That’s where HVO comes in. Whilst it may not be the final answer to sustainable energy, it is certainly the most effective alternative to start using immediately until other sources are more established.
Q: Are you seeing an increase in businesses wanting to transition to HVO? Absolutely. To give an idea, in 2021 we delivered 12million litres of HVO, and in 2022 it increased to an impressive 48 million litres. From these figures it’s clear that there has been a major shift, but with our HVO being made from 100% renewable materials there is always a limited supply within a growing market. Don’t wait until it’s too late to take action, companies are securing yearly HVO supplies to ensure they can achieve their sustainability goals.
