Commitment to achieving Net Zero

New Era Fuels is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 1/11/21 – 31/10/22, first year of reporting

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

Scope 1 and 2 emissions were calculated for us by Positive Planet for 2022. Scope 3 emissions are based on Scope 1 delivery fuel consumption data from our HVO supplier, GBF, and are an estimate based on the ratio of their figures as a total of fuel consumed by all our Suppliers in deliveries to us.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to tCO2e by 2028 This is a reduction of 20%.

  • Changing all our vehicles to run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) by the end of 2023.
  • Changing existing 23m skip to 3 of 6 cubic metre lidded bins for general waste and recycling. This will increase our capacity and take recycling from zero to 50% cardboard.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • The obtaining of ISO 50001 Energy Saving certification by building an Energy Management System and committing to saving energy across the business.
  • Switching our electricity tariff for Head Office to a company such as EDF Blue for Business for a lower carbon footprint.
  • Implementing a Sustainable Procurement Policy to save energy and costs and reduce waste.
